Short-interval management (SIM) isn’t a meeting, it’s a cascade: short, nested rituals where each level handles what the level below couldn’t resolve. When the cascade works, the plant manager learns about a problem the same day, not three weeks later through an indirect path.

The three levels

Level Ritual Facilitator Duration What we look at What escalates
1 Team meeting, per shift Team leader 15 min Yesterday’s measurements, open gaps, overdue actions Gaps the team can’t handle alone
2 Shop floor meeting, daily Shop floor manager 20 min Escalated gaps, consolidated indicators, comparable across teams Gaps that need a ruling or a budget
3 Plant meeting, weekly Management 30 min Trends, ritual hold rate, critical gaps Standard decisions

The three rules that hold the cascade together

  1. An escalated gap keeps its origin. The team that reported it sees it through to closure, even when handled at shop floor level.
  2. Indicators have the same name at every level. One thing is one object; otherwise nothing is comparable.
  3. The hold rate is measured at every level. A meeting not held lowers the rate; nobody enters it after the fact to flatter the month.

What breaks SIM

Preparing numbers by hand between levels (the shop floor manager spends the morning compiling), or escalating everything (level 2 receives 40 gaps a day and handles none). The rule: escalate what’s getting worse or what’s blocked, not what’s merely open.

Frequently asked questions

How many indicators per level?

Five to seven at level 1, the same ones consolidated at level 2, plus trends at level 3. Beyond that, nobody looks at them.

Where does Daystream stand on escalation?

Escalating a gap to the next level is in development; the Features page marks it “soon”. Rituals by level and team boards are available.

Does SIM work with night shifts?

Yes, as long as everything that happens during a night shift counts for the day the shift started. That’s a tool rule, not a facilitator’s.
